Starting IS101 at CSN

Hello everyone!

My name is Vania, and I am currently a student in the IS101 course. I really enjoy this course because I know it will help me improve my digital skills, which will be very useful for my professional career. What impressed me the most about IS101 is that the course is very well organized, which is extremely helpful for first-semester students like me who are just starting to use these new tools.

My experience using LabSim 1.3.2: Digital Communication Facts has been very helpful. This lesson helped me understand the different methods of digital communication, such as email, forums, texting, video calls, social media, and more. The methods I use the most are texting, social media, and email, which I use for both personal communication and college. This skill also helped me become more aware of online behavior, which is important for future work.

As a first-semester student, I am motivated to continue improving my technology skills and growing academically.

  1. Different communication methods (e.g. email, forums, texting, video calls, social media) have different etiquette and expectations. I'm glad 1.3.2 helped you become more aware of online behavior.

Thank you for finding IS101-3005, Spring 2026 to be very well organized, Vania :-)

I'm honored to be one of the professors from your first semester at College of Southern Nevada ^_^

  2. Vania, those digital communication skills are definitely practical. I once had a professor tell me, as a college student, I needed a more professional tone in emails. Some professors expect that, so it’s good to adjust. Casual works well in blogs, but emails can be more formal. I had to shift my tone after a professor commented on mine. Learning to balance both styles is helpful. You’ll be ready when you write to professors or for work. It’s good to be adaptable in communication.

  3. Hello Vania, you are very lucky to get IS101 as one of your first classes. I wish I knew a lot of the shortcuts to use for previous presentations and research papers. You are showing great dedication and progress in this class and setting an amazing example for your classmates. I hope that you have a good experience with your future professors, I am in my 2nd year at CSN and I really enjoy it.

  4. Hi Vania! It’s been nice sitting together in class these past weeks. I also agree with you that IS101 is really helpful, especially because it helps us improve our digital skills that we will definitely need later in our careers. Also, I think is important to know about digital communication and online behavior, because sometimes people forget that the way we act online matters just as much as how we behave in person.

  5. Hi Vania, I think it's great that you're learning taking this class in you're first semester, I'm sure it will benefit you later on! The skills you learn in this class seem to also teach us about how to navigate the digital world professionally, it's better to learn it earlier than later. Conducting yourself properly while on the internet seems to be a lost art sometimes, I do think it's interesting how different people can act online vs. offline.

  7. It is good that this class is helping you prepare for the career that you are pursuing. I think that IS101 is helpful for me as well. I am pursuing a degree in Comprehensive Medical Imaging at UNLV to become a radiologic technologist. After learning how to use Excel, I will have no problem with recording information about patients. What career are you pursuing?

  9. Digital communication for us in our generation is overlooked on how important it is when it comes to our everyday lives. As you said, It is practical to learn about such things to be aware of the dangers and use it carefully especially online. More power to your journey and are those rose petals as your background?

  15. Hey Vania, I like that you chose Digital Communication Facts for your topic, I specifically liked you mentioning how this skill also helped you become more aware of online behavior. That is indeed important for work, but also extremely important for protecting yourself and your privacy in the digital world. It's great that people are starting to realize the importance of their online presence ad just how much they can say/show online, as well as how to act appropriately.
