What I Learned in phase 2: Excel, URLs, and Real World Skills

During Phase 2, with Excel, even though I already had some basic knowledge, I feel that I am now understanding much better how to use its functions correctly. I realized that knowing how to use these tools is like having a shortcut, because it allows you to complete tasks in a faster and more efficient way. Identifying URLs was a bit easier for me, although it still has details that need to be learned. Regarding Assignment A6, at first I thought I understood it well, but during the WebEx with the professor, I realized that I still needed to improve several things, so I will pay more attention to make sure it does not happen again.

In Chapter 5.8.2, Chart Types, I learned that each type of chart has a different purpose, such as using bar charts to compare data, line charts to show changes over time, and scatter plots to show relationships between variables. In addition, it is not only about creating a chart, but also about choosing the correct one and organizing it properly so that the information is clear and easy to understand. Overall, I feel that I can now work faster and more efficiently.

Outside of class, I can apply what I learned in Phase 2 in real-life situations such as organizing my personal finances, creating budgets, or analyzing data more clearly using Excel. I can also use charts to present information in a more visual way in jobs, projects, or even in other classes.

In Phase 3, I want to do my best to complete everything that is required, not just by doing the minimum, but by putting in extra effort. I want to improve my work so that it is more original and better organized. To achieve this, I will manage my time better and focus more on details in order to get better results.

  1. Hi Vania, Honestly, what stood out to me was how you noticed your pace improving, that’s something I’m starting to feel too and it kind of boosts your confidence without you realizing it.

The part where you said you thought you understood A6 but then caught gaps after the WebEx was very real, that happens more often than we admit. I also like how you pointed out that charts aren’t just about making them look nice, but actually choosing the right one for the message. It’s good that you’re already thinking about applying this outside class, not just for grades.

Phase 3 mindset sounds solid too, not just doing the minimum but actually improving the quality of your work.

  2. Hello Vania, yeah, the use of functions does feel like a shortcut and I'm glad we are all learning this useful skill. It makes using Excel faster and more efficiently, which makes managing our work more easier making us more productive. The charts are cool too, it makes everything more visual and great to use for many other things outside of class. Have a great rest of the semester!

  3. Very glad to hear identifying the various components of a URL was a bit easier, Vania :-)

I'm ecstatic to know that you can apply what you learned Phase 2 in real-life situations such as organizing your personal finances, creating budgets, and analyzing data more clearly using Excel!

I can't wait to see your performance in Phase 3 and your A8 Improved Slideshow Presentation ^_^

  4. HI Vania!
I like the topic you chose for the blog. To be honest, I struggle a bit when it comes to interpreting which chart to use, but I know I need to keep practicing and working on it on my own. Keep that mindset and you will succeed!

  5. Hi Vania, learning that each chart has a specific purpose is important and actually really useful. I remember learning in high school (I forgot which class) that line charts are best for showing the change in data over time, and that's just something that's always stuck with me since.

  6. Hello Vania. I'm glad that you're understanding the concepts of excel better than you previously had before. All the assignments we participate in improve our efficiency. I still have some confusion regarding what charts to use in what circumstance, but from what I've experienced in previous assignments that could just be a confidence issue in whether I'm right about my choice or not. It's cool that you're able to use the information you've learned in class outside of class!

  7. I have the same thought about A6 thinking I got it right the first time. That was not the case at all. I tried to change my answers at least 5 times, different rendition of the answers every time. Thankfully I still submitted it right with the help of the professor but that assignment was brutal, at least for me.

Also the chapter you chose is actually excellent! Learning about charts and how to use them properly actually helps with personal stuff as well.

  9. Hello Vania, I liked how you explained that Excel feels like a shortcut once you actually understand the tools better. I also agree that choosing the right chart type is more important than I originally thought because it can completely change how easy the information is to understand.

  10. Hi Vania, I completely agree that using the knowledge we learned with excel is great to get things done much faster. Creating functions is really great because before we learned what we learned in phase 2 I was typing in number sequences in manually. It's amazing how efficient Excel really can be I hope phase 3 was much easier for you.

  11. Hi Vania. One of the reasons that A6: Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer was hard was that it didn’t just require you to follow the instructions. You also had to make the table and charts look professional. Although we made some mistakes on this assignment, we at least have learned what we can avoid on when creating professional documents. What chart do you think will help you the most during your career?

  12. Hey Vania, you made a great point as of everything we learned we are taught on how to do things in a more quick and efficient way. Understanding that and having the willingness to want to improve is definitely for the best.

  13. Hey Vania, before this phase, I didn't know what to think about Excel because I never touched it, thought about it or anything but using this for personal projects could get me some exposure to learn how to apply, Nice one.

  14. Hey Vania! I admire you so much for doing your best. Excel is already difficult as it is, and you told me English is still a little challenging for you at times. So unlike other people who can use context clues for which function is for certain things, you have to start from scratch to actually know what they do. I'm glad you pushed through regardless of how hard it was! You probably put twice as much effort as an English speaker, I feel inspired by you as we both were from different countries and are used to a different native tongue. Glad to see we made it to the end! :)
